Ross Sea Marine Protected Area Ecosystem and Environment Voyage

R/V Tangaroa conducts biennial summer voyages in the Ross Sea region with the next voyage planned early in 2023.  The voyages focus on the Ross Sea region Marine Protected Area which was established in 2017 with the protection agreement currently in place for 35 years through agreement of parties to the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR).  The agreement seeks to balance marine protection, sustainable fishing and science interests.  Associated additional science in the past has included atmospheric in situ sampling (ice nucleating particles) and remote sensing (ceilometer/micro-pulse lidar) atmospheric observations and other sampling (Kremser et al., 2021) to investigate interactions between marine aerosols and cloud formation over the Southern Ocean.  Work packages for this voyage are to be confirmed in 2022.
